Ageism Attack on McCain from Barack Obama

As if the Guns & Religion comment wasn't enough to offend Small Town America. Now, Barack Obama (BO) has a new ad attacking McCain for not using email. I wonder how many senior citizens don't know how to use a computer or send an email. Nice way to offend a good segment of the voting population.

GO HERE to see the new ad.

I think what Obama means is that McCain is out of touch with most Americans.

I'm from a rural area outside of Caney, Kansas. My dad was a cowboy and avid hunter. Let me tell you, Obama's comment didn't offend me. It was very accurate. The stress that comes from a lack of prosperity can cause people to focus on anger and divisiveness. Karl Rove's strategy to elect Bush was to basically get poorer and less educated voters to identify with him on abortion, guns, and gay rights ("identity" issues that will ultimately have little impact on their daily lives), and thereby help to enact George Bush's economic policies that actually did impact them, negatively.

A related observation is that increased prosperity has historically quelled violence and extremism across the globe. This is not especially controversial.

This attack on McCain's technical prowess isn't ageism. My grandmother just celebrated her 90th birthday, and was computer savvy and using email over a decade ago. Age is not the reason or excuse for McCain's lack of technical expertise. And in an economy that is increasingly dependent on the technology sector, it is a valid concern that a candidate may not fully understand or appreciate the demands of that industry.

And yes, to some extent McCain's age is an issue, aside from the criticism of his technical expertise. We know that our mental faculties diminish significantly in our later years, and 72 is a fairly advanced age. And considering he picked an extremely unqualified running mate, whom his campaign has even sheltered from media contact for fear that she might make yet another verbal slip-up, there is a very well-founded concern about his longevity.

Talking about these serious concerns is part of our due diligence as citizens. It is a disservice to our society to dismiss this criticism with simplistic language that conflates it with mere bigotry. It's not bigotry. It's a valid point.

Don't vote for someone you'd have a beer with, or want to babysit for. Vote for a leader with intellectual gifts and a sound temperament, and the grasp of economics that is required to steer us out of this crisis.

Palin is dishonest and unqualified, and you know it. We need a steady hand in the White House. Not this erratic from-the-gut duo.

Did anyone see the rally where Obama was called an Arab? Funny how McCain would denounce this woman when he started this wave of fear in White America. In one campaign we have been able to undo all that the civil rights has done. We are now seeing whites scream "Bomb Obama" or "Kill baby kill". Sarah Palin has been in the forefront of all of this warmongering. Way to go MOMS4Palin. I commend you on siding with racists who would sooner bomb Obama (like Medger Evers and his wife in the 60s) or hang him with a noose and calling yourself Godfearing conservatives. I would suggest you read your bible some more. I don't think Jesus would condone this behavior. Keep God out of your mouths when you speak your hatred.

I hope Sen.Barak Obama does not win for far different reasons than that of you racists. I believe that the most important thing is his life. I pray God keeps him and lets him understand that a loss of potential office is a gain of life. Life he can have to see his beautiful daughters grow. Life he can enjoy with his wife. All of which would be wiped out by redneck racists who still hold on to the days of old when it was acceptable to lynch, "Kill baby Kill", and "Bomb baby Bomb".
